Pilates

Pilates is based on a unique system of stretching and strengthening exercises developed 90 years ago by Joseph H. Pilates. He initially devised the exercises to strengthen his own body, later helping bedridden patients during WWI by attaching springs (for resistance) to their hospital beds. These spring-based exercises became the basis for current Pilates equipment.
Pilates features a series of exercises performed on a mat or on various pieces of specially designed equipment (for example, Cadillac or Reformer) that become progressively more difficult.
At GO Physio, we offer group mat classes at the beginner and intermediate levels, as well as private and semi-private sessions primarily taught on our Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrel equipment. Stott trained instructors teach all classes.
In the beginner level classes, we concentrate on mastering the basic principles of Pilates and learning the essential exercises; focusing on trunk strength and co-ordinated movement.The intermediate mat class is designed for those who have mastered the basic level exercises and are looking for a greater challenge and an opportunity to further build core strength with more difficult exercises.

CORE CLASS

It’s hard to go a day without hearing about core strength and how to improve it. What exactly is the core? Why strengthen it?  Your “core” consists of muscles that stiffen and stabilize your spine allowing it to bear load, prevent back injury and move your arms and legs.
Whether you’re an athlete, or a couch potato a strong centre will have a positive impact on your life. Dynamic core strengthening will help bring ease and strength to your everyday activities – running, walking, gardening, housework, the list goes on! Many traditional abdominal and core exercises target only superficial abdominal muscles.  To effectively train the core, you have to activate the deep muscles of the abdomen and back.  Come to our Dynamic Core Stability and Movement class to find out the impact a strong and stable core can have on your life!
